FLC to offer nonprofit class
Fort Lewis College Office of Continuing Education will offer Nonprofit Management: Making a Difference from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Sept. 20 to Nov. 8 on campus.
Course content will include high-impact leadership, including fundamentals, design and process for developing a strategic master plan; community-based and foundation fundraising; building community support through innovative marketing techniques and creatively-designed special events; and board development. Previous students are welcome. The cost is $175.

Lunch & Learn talk to be held Sept. 28
The September Lunch & Learn will be held at noon Sept. 28 at First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.
The cost is $7 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members and $14 for nonmembers. The presentation, Financial Experience & Behaviors Among Women, will look at the current landscape of womens financial security and preparedness, and identify the progress women have made as well as some of the challenges they continue to face.

Alpine Bank announces new hire
Alpine Bank welcomes the addition to their team of Brian Rose.
Rose comes to Durango from Buena Vista, where he worked the last eight years as vice president of commercial lending and as chief lending officer for High Country Bank in Salida. He graduated cum laude from Siena College in 1995 in Loudonville, N. Y. with a degree in marketing and management. He has called Colorado home since 1997. Rose enjoys camping, four-wheeling, rock climbing, hiking and golfing. He moved to Durango with his wife, Tiffany, daughter Macie and son Tatum.
Payroll Department completes audit
The Payroll Department, Inc., an independent provider of payroll and time-and-attendance solutions, announces the successful completion of its first SSAE 16 Type I audit (Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization, SSAE No. 16) as of Aug. 26.
This auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is a third-party evaluation and recording of internal controls, along with the independent auditors tests and findings.
The business handles payroll and time and attendance, for clients having from 100 to 500 employees. The SSAE 16 is an audit that legitimizes an outsourced material service such as payroll services for public companies. The business plans to continue to maintain this certification with regular audits.

Historical society receives an award
The American Association for State and Local History announces that the La Plata County Historical Society is the recipient of an Award of Merit from the American Association for State Local History Leadership in History Awards for the Home for History Project.
The Leadership in History Awards is a recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history.
Presentation of the awards will be made at a banquet during the annual meeting Friday in Richmond, Va. Spearheaded by Curator of Collections Jan Postler, the Home for History Project took place over the course of two years and involved rehousing and moving more than 34,000 items in the museums permanent collections to the buildings new fourth floor.

Spaaah Shop announces new hire
The Spaaah Shop and Day Spa announces the addition of Robin Davis to its massage therapist team.
Davis is the founder of Mothering U2 Birth Services in Durango. She has been a licensed practical nurse since 1986 and a massage-therapist since 1988. Her specialty is in womens wellness.
Davis is an intuitive healer as well as a maternal/child nurse educator with a background in gynecology, pediatric nursing and as a midwife assistant.
She is a certified prenatal/postpartum massage therapist, infant massage instructor and labor and postpartum doula since 1998. She also is an active member of Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association.
