The Herald’s lead story about Paola Lerma Martin del Campo (Sept. 2) was wonderful, beautifully written and uplifting. Hopefully, the Herald will deliver more in that spirit.
I would hope del Campo and her family did not take offense at Mike Sigman’s subtle, jesting response (“Are you covering for Trump resistance?” Sept. 5).
On the surface, his faux cry demanding immigration status for any Mexican immigrant was not serious. No one does that for German, Swiss, Japanese or Canadian immigrants. Doing it to Hispanics would be blatant racial profiling – or simply racism. And no one – no one – would do that in one breath and then question the presence of racism in the next.
Hopefully, del Campo and her friends recognized the jesting and good humor in Sigman’s letter. To assume otherwise would be a rude insult to his civility and intelligence.
