Sunflower Theatre will host a showing of the film “The Most Dangerous Year” at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the theater, 8 E. Main St. in Cortez.
In early 2016, when a dark wave of anti-transgender “bathroom bills” began sweeping across the nation. The Human Rights Campaign published a report identifying 2016 as the most dangerous year for transgender Americans.
The film captures the ensuing civil rights battle from the perspective of a group of embattled parents as they banded together to fight a deluge of proposed laws that would strip away the rights of their young transgender children.
The film is directed by Seattle based filmmaker, Vlada Knowlton. The screening will be attended by two of the film’s cast members – Aidan Key and Kristin Key, who will hold a post-screening Q&A. Kristin Key is also a former Cortez resident.
This is a free event and is open to the public.
