Early childhood council to meet Monday
The Montelores Early Childhood Council will meet at 11:45 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ annex, 631 E. Montezuma Ave., in Cortez

Henna workshop to take place Tuesday
A henna workshop will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, in Bayfield.
Henna artist Molly Arms will talk about the history of henna and demonstrate how to make the cones, mix the henna and create the designs. Participants will receive handouts with the henna recipe and sample designs. Cones of henna to practice with at home will be available for $5.

Screening of Deaf Jam to be held Tuesday
Durango Community Cinema at The Back Space Theatre will continue with the showing of Deaf Jam, the story of deaf teen Aneta Brodsky, an Israeli immigrant in New York City, who teams with Tahani, a Palestinian slam poet, at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 1120 Main Ave., Suite 2.
Doors will open at 8 p.m., and the film will begin at 8:15 p.m. The film will be followed by poetry and discussion.

Archaeological society to meet Tuesday
The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society will present Sally Cole. Cole will give a talk called Rock Art at the Falls Creek Rock Shelters at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cortez Cultural Center, 25 North Market St., in Cortez.
Cole will discuss her research into the chronology and social identity of the Basketmaker II Falls Creek rock shelters community near Durango. The community was first excavated and written about by Earl Morris in the late 1930s.

Workshop will focus on first year of parenthood
Thrive in the First Year, a workshop for new mothers and fathers, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kids Rock, 1032 Main Ave.
This workshop is best taken during pregnancy and will be presented by Joy Frazer. The cost is $20 per family.
Frazer will discuss how to prevent illness in the first year of a babys life; tools to treat teething, fevers, colds, flu, ear infections and diaper rash; how and when to introduce solid foods; healthy sleep tips; and when to ask for professional help. Home-treatment tools and snacks will be provided.
