PERA members to meet Thursday
All state employees and retirees, including Colorado Department of Transportation, school districts, highway patrol, judges, natural resources, Department of Wildlife, Department of Motor Vehicles and others, are encouraged to attend a meeting for PERA members from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
Current issues and legislation impacting PERA will be discussed. Representatives from Colorado School and Public Employees Retirement Association and the local La Plata School and Public Employees Retirement Association will be available for membership.

Natural Foods Co-op announces events
Durango Natural Foods Co-op, 575 East Eighth Ave., will participate in the second annual national Non-GMO month, celebrating consumers’ rights to choose food and products that do not contain genetically modified organisms during October.
The co-op will participate by starting in-house labeling of food and products that are Non-GMO verified.
The co-op also will host a “GMOs: Is Your Food Safe?” lecture with Lyn Patrick at 6 p.m. Thursday the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave. Non-GMO snacks will be provided.

Life-Long Learning presentation to be held
Life-Long Learning, sponsored by Professional Associates through Fort Lewis College, will present “In Search of Deep Time” by Rob Blair at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 130 Noble Hall at Fort Lewis College.

Daybreak Rotary to meet Wednesday
Daybreak Rotary of Durango’s meeting will feature Teal Stetson-Lee, a former Rotary Youth Exchange student, from 7 to 8 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 5 at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Stetson-Lee is currently a community and prevention specialist with the Tobacco Coalition, She will discuss policy work being done to strengthen the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act. As a Rotary exchange student, she studied in Chile.

Kiwanis Club to meet Thursday
The Kiwanis Club of Durango will host Jeannie Bennett of La Plata Electric Association at its meeting at 12:10 p.m. Thursday at Mama’s Boy, 2659 Main Ave.
Bennett will speak about the Round Up Foundation at LPEA. Visitors are welcome.
