Trails 2000 to hold trail work
Trails 2000 will perform trail work from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bread Express, right on Ball Lane and park before the pillars.
Participants should wear pants, long-sleeve shirts, sturdy shoes and hats, and bring water.

Vallecito Nordic Club to clean trails Saturday
Vallecito Nordic Club will have a trails cleanup day to prepare for grooming for the upcoming ski season at 10 a.m. Saturday at Madden Corner at the Vallecito Nordic Trail System.
Participants should bring gloves, lunch, water, and tools such as brush cutters, shovel or pulaski.

Mounted rangers event to be held Sunday
The Colorado Mounted Rangers annual all-you-can eat western breakfast will be offered from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Exhibit Hall at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Tickets can be purchased at the door at $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 13; children 5 and younger are free.
There will be entertainment, door prizes, and a silent auction. Entertainment will feature Gary Boyd, a former Bar D Wrangler.
Ski, snowboard team to have orientation
The Purgatory Ski and Snowboard Team will offer alpine ski racing, freestyle skiing and competitive snowboard programs for youth ages 6 to 18.
The annual orientation meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Middle School, 2608 Junction St.
The meeting will detail programs, training schedules, tuition and scholarship information. Team scholarships and financial aid are available through the Durango Winter Sports Foundation.

Discussion of novel to be held in Bayfield
The Lavenia McCoy Public Library in Bayfield will host a discussion of the novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen starting at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the library meeting room, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

Durango to spray city parks today
The city of Durango will spray in these parks today:
Fort Lewis College softball fields, playground.
The fertilizer will be Pro-Lawn Liquid, and the weed control will be Vessel Broad-Leaf. These areas will be flagged until the application has been watered in.

Bayfield library to hold story time
The Lavenia McCoy Public Library in Bayfield will host an Observe the Moon Night and Pajama Storytime from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
Children are invited to wear pajamas to listen to moon stories and observe the moon with the librarys new-moon-viewing kit.

Animal-wellness class to be held Tuesday
The class Eastern Approach to Animal Wellness with Natalie Lenoir will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Durango Natural Foods, 575 East Eighth Ave.
Participants will learn dietary therapy and herbal remedies for prevention of common health issues with animal companions from the eastern perspective.
