Social Security seminar to be held Thursday
A seminar about Social Security will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Program Room 1 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The event will be hosted by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney of Durango.
The seminar will present an overview on how Social Security benefits work for the recipient and their spouse; when and how to start receiving Social Security benefits; and opportunities to increase benefits throughout retirement.

Bayfield library to show film Tuesday
The Lavenia McCoy Public Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will show Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Many of the scenes in the film were shot in and around Durango. This is part of the librarys Hollywood in the Wild West film series.
The next film will be Alfred Hitchcock Master of Suspense to be shown at 7 p.m. Oct. 17.

Full moon hike to take place Tuesday
Durango Nature Studies will hold a full moon hike under the Hunters Moon from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Animas City Mountain.
The hike is free for members and $10 for nonmembers. The hike will include information about natural history, nocturnal animals, local landforms, and moon facts and legends.

Daybreak Rotary to meet Wednesday
Roger Ptolemy, district governor for Rotary District 5470 and a member of Durangos evening Rotary club, will discuss the upcoming Rotary district conference scheduled for Oct. 14 to 16 at the Strater Hotel and Sky Ute Casino.
Ptolemy also will talk about his goals for the upcoming year during the Durango Daybreak Rotarys meeting from 7 to 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Botanical society ribbon cutting and fundraiser
The Durango Public Library Demonstration Garden, located between the library and the river trail, will have a ribbon cutting from 5 to 5:30 p.m. today, weather permitting.
A silent auction and lecture titled Tales of a Life in Plant Exploration: Bringing the Wilds of the World into our Gardens will be held afterward from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
This event, sponsored by Durango Nursery and Supply, will showcase the knowledge of Panayoti Kelaidis, Denver Botanical Gardens senior curator and director of outreach. Tickets are available at Durango Nursery, Native Roots or CSU Extension Office. The cost is $20 for Durango Botanical Society members and $10 for nonmembers.
