It’s a question why the Herald would feel like an award from the ACLU would be a good thing (“ACLU presents The Durango Herald with media award,” Oct. 2).
The ACLU is an organization that has always been on the far left and with a goal of changing the United States into a far left, socialist country, at a minimum. One of the founders of the ACLU, Roger Baldwin, once said: “I am for socialism, disarmament, and, ultimately, for abolishing the state itself ... I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”
In recent times, the ACLU has responded more to the clamor of the far left than it has to its stated principles. That the Herald won an award from such a leftist organization is not necessarily a good thing.
