The Bayfield High School football team’s game against Montezuma-Cortez was postponed due to stadium light failure. Kickoff was scheduled for 7 p.m., but after a half hour delay, the referees decided to postpone the game due to player safety. The north side of the field’s lights were completely out, and despite efforts from technicians, the issue was unable to be resolved.
“When we were warming up, they didn’t put the lights on until 10 minutes before the game,” said BHS head coach Gary Heide. “Nobody noticed it until kickoff that one side was out. It was a half hour delay or so. They figured out that the problem was underground, so it could not be fixed game.”
Kickoff will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cortez.
