Hayley Kirkman, left, coordinator of creative arts and special projects with Local First, and Durango artist Jenn Rawling have spent about 30 hours each as of Saturday afternoon painting the facade of Handcrafted House at the corner of 13th Street and East Second Avenue. Sheryl Lock, who owns the building and the interior design business, said she bought the mixed-use property about 10 years ago. She and Larz Hansen, a local independent contractor and real estate agent, live in the house behind the business. The Durango Creative Economy Commission-funded project is in a perfect place, Lock said, where people at the Smiley Building, Durango School District 9-R and Buckley Park can all enjoy the artwork.
