Sacred Arts Festival announces events
The Sacred Arts Festival at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave., will feature these events:
A Meditation in the Labyrinth: Renew, Refresh, Rejoice workshop will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Participants will read labyrinth meditations, write a personal meditation, walk the St. Marks Labyrinth, and share labyrinth experiences. A $5 donation is requested.
Spiraling into the Heart of the Divine Feminine will be presented by artist Jenny Treanor at 7 p.m. Thursday. Treanor embarked on a solo quest to France in spring 2011. She will recount her pilgrimage through images and stories.
A reception and trunk showing for Santero Charles Carrillo will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
An introduction to Retablo painting with Charles Carrillo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22. The cost is $50 for the class and $20 for materials. Preregistration is required.
Writing Poetry: The Practice of Sacred Language will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 23. This workshop will provide writing exercises and practice in basic poetic tools. All levels are welcome. The registration fee is $20 and preregistration is appreciated. Mail a check with Writing Poetry in the memo field to 3rd Ave. Arts, 910 East Third Ave., Durango, CO 81301. Accessing Beginners Mind: Perception and the Sacred Arts will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 29. Photographers Robert Bridges and Katherine Barr will lead the workshop, which will explore creativity and the visual arts through the lenses of Buddhism and Christianity. Donations are requested.

Torah celebration to be held Friday
A Simchas Torah Celebration will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203.
The event will include music and dancing with the Torah and a dessert potluck.
to hold potluck
The Stewardship Ministry of Pope John Paul II Catholic Church, 353 S. Pagosa Blvd. in Pagosa Springs, will host an all-church potluck after the 5 p.m. mass on Oct. 22.
The potluck will celebrate parishioners who have joined in the last 18 months. People who want to return to or join the Catholic church are invited. Parishioners whose last name begins with A to H are asked to bring main dishes; I to O should bring salads; and P to Z desserts.

Rosary crusade to be held in Pagosa
A Fatima Rosary Crusade will take place at noon today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 451 Lewis St. in Pagosa Springs.
Participants will gather inside Immaculate Heart of Mary and proceed to the bell tower on the corner of Lewis Street and U.S. Highway 160 where the rally to pray for the country, the community and an end to abortion will take place.

Workshop on prayer to be held Nov. 5
A Pray with Pizazz workshop will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.
Former Durango resident Betty Bordner will help participants harness their spiritual energy and explore the ways this energy is transformed into a personal prayer life.
Bordner was a parishioner at St. Marks for 21 years. She is the former director of the Durango Early Learning Center.
She and her husband left Durango for Alexandria, Va., where her husband attended Virginia Theological Seminary while Bordner was the assistant head of school and chaplain at the elementary school at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
Lunch will be included.
