As far as fall traditions go in the Four Corners, the Golden Dragon Acrobats arent too far behind Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Year after year, crowds keep coming back to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.
We usually sell it out, and theyve been incredibly popular over the years, said Concert Hall Director Charles Leslie.
They tour practically year-round around the world, but they seem to like coming to Durango, so were pretty lucky to have them.
It is a show to be seen. The 25-member professional touring group from Hebei, China, is the only Chinese acrobatic company that tours constantly (except for an extended stay in New York City every year) in the United States. The spectacle includes ornate costuming and choreographed musical numbers that rival any touring theater company, but the Golden Dragons set themselves apart from any other stage performers with their athletic ability and feats of skill.
Expect to experience lots of Eastern music, bright colors, juggling, balancing and human conglomerations that defy gravity. The troupe is led by impresario Danny Chang and choreographer Angela Chang, both of whom have scored New York Drama Desk nominations for their work with the Golden Dragons.
Clips of the Golden Dragon Acrobats in action can be viewed at www.goldendragonacrobats.com, but theyre much better in person.
