A recent letter in the Durango Herald from a Denver resident touted the purported benefit of eliminating the Electoral College for the residents of Colorado (“Killing Electoral College would be dandy,” Nov. 2). This is pure hogwash.
Without the benefit of the Electoral College, the decision on our next president will be handed over to the residents of the most populous cities. Colorado’s residents would have no hope of their chosen candidate being elected unless they uniformly agreed with the residents of New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc.
The Electoral College creates a leveling of the impact of population on state’s rights.
This is too important to dismiss.
