Wine tasting to benefit Habitat for Humanity
The 13th annual Liquor World Wine Tasting Gala & Silent Auction will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
The fundraising event, which benefits Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County, features hundreds of wines, hors doeuvres and desserts from community restaurants and silent-auction items.

Investment property symposium to be held
The Wells Group will host a 90-minute Investment Property Symposium exclusively for medical doctors at 6 p.m. Thursday in program rooms 1 and 2 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Food and beverages will be provided. Through the presentations of a panel of experts, the symposium is designed to present the advantages and methods of owning local income-producing property as a part of a well-diversified investment strategy.

Locals receive awards from Fort Lewis College
Jeff Solon and Karyn Gabaldon have been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Fort Lewis College School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
The award is presented to alumni who, by their distinguished service to the college, state or nation, have brought honor to FLC and to herself or himself.
Gabaldon is a painter, teacher, lecturer and gallery owner. She has owned Karyn Gabaldon Fine Arts Gallery for 30 years in downtown Durango, and has continued creating art since her student years at FLC.
Solon is a jazz musician, composer and band leader who performs regularly in this region. Solon teaches jazz studies at FLC and private lessons at Katzin Music. He has released 14 recordings. Solon is a 1978 graduate of FLC.
