I would like to thank Mike Vandeman for his excellent letter (“Restrict mountain biking to paved roads,” Dec. 1). But he didn’t go far enough.
Mountain trail travel by humans is totally incompatible with nature as it originally existed and even the health of the people themselves. Permitting people in the mountains was a big mistake. There is no good reason to allow humans on any unpaved trail.
People need to be restricted to paved roads, where they can’t do much harm.
People claim that roads are dangerous, but they have amply proven that any travel on trails is equally dangerous.
So address the real problem: Dirt can be slippery, pave everything.
