Kosta Kordistos hadnt appeared in a game for the No. 3 Fort Lewis College mens soccer team since Sept. 11 when he suffered a partially torn ACL.
He made up for lost time in a hurry Sunday against Adams State.
Kordistos broke a 1-1 tie in the 81st minute and scored again in the 90th to push the Skyhawks to a 3-1 win as FLC wrapped up the regular season against the Grizzlies in Alamosa.
Fort Lewis head coach Oige Kennedy said the freshman striker, who now has five goals on the season, played about 20 minutes at the end of each half on a day where the Skyhawks (17-1-0, 13-1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) shuffled numerous players in and out of the lineup. FLC already had wrapped up the RMAC regular-season title last weekend.
I think (Kordistos) was in great form at the start of the season before he got injured, and he worked really hard in training and stuff to get healthy again, Kennedy said.
Mason Zupan, a redshirt freshman defender, opened the scoring for Fort Lewis in the 32nd minute. Joey Madigans corner kick eventually found a home on Zupans head, and he tucked it home for a 1-0 lead.
We were able to play a lot of guys (Sunday) that maybe havent featured a lot. ... Nick Hofman played really well (Sunday), Kennedy said of his roster production.
Despite a distinct advantage in possession and shots (24-11), Fort Lewis was done in by a chip from Norberto Lopez in the 80th minute to pull the Grizzlies (3-12-2, 2-11-1 RMAC) even. Kordistos broke the tie with a goal 1 minute, 7 seconds later.
FLC is the top seed and host for the semifinals and finals of next weekends RMAC Tournament and will meet the winner of Wednesdays game between No. 5 seed UC-Colorado Springs and No. 4 seed Colorado Mines.
Fridays other semifinal will pit No. 2 seed Regis against either No. 6 seed CSU-Pueblo or No. 3 seed Metro State, a game also scheduled for Wednesday.
We know that were coming into the point where youve got to keep winning to keep the season going, Kennedy said. Its kind of what weve strived for this season.
