Motocross and freestyle moto is coming to Durango.
The Durango Moto X event for pro and amateur bikers will be held May 16-17 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in Durango.
On Saturday, May 16, there will be amateur motocross, pro motocross and a freestyle show. Preliminary events are scheduled throughout the morning and afternoon. The main event will start at 6 p.m. The hour-long freestyle show will split the main event.
On Sunday, May 17, there will be open moto classes and all ATV races from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is promoted by local moto-x rider Joe Kelly Taylor.More than 100 moto riders are expected with as many as 250 possible.
The local Fun Center Supercross Team of Michael Lapaglia, Cole Seely and Brady Sheren will be racing over the weekend.
Locals Todd Miller, Chance Simonson and Myles Rockwell are scheduled to compete. Rockwell is a former downhill mountain bike world champion.
Greg Herbold, another downhill mountain biking legend, will ride and assist with the announcing for the event.
Other top local competitors entered include Zach Gurley, Aaron Bates, Todd Miller, Nathan Hensley and Coby Adair. Darren Connet is scheduled to do a motorcycle backflip during the freestyle show. Standard AMA rules will apply for the Durango Moto X event.
