A Durango man was arrested this month for burglary just weeks after a judge sentenced him to probation for vandalizing homes in Three Springs.
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office alleges River Anderson, 18, broke into a home Feb. 4 in the 500 block of Rim Rock Drive.
Surveillance footage from the home’s garage depict a hooded man and woman leaving the garage door open. A caretaker reported finding the garage door open and objects “disheveled” inside. She called 911.
Law enforcement found Anderson the next day in a truck matching the one in the surveillance footage. Anderson showed investigators blankets and alcohol he said he had taken.
He faces charges of second-degree burglary, a Class 3 felony carrying a penalty of up to 12 years prison and $750,000 in fines. He was released from La Plata County Jail on Feb. 7 on a $3,000 bond.
In December, Anderson pleaded guilty to criminal mischief after allegedly painting graffiti including a swastika, sexual images and the words “crip” and “gang bang” in unfinished homes in Three Springs. He was sentenced to one year of probation.
He’s scheduled to appear in court for burglary charges Feb. 28.
