Recently, I was involved in a car wreck on U.S. Highway 160 headed toward Bayfield. After I got out of the hospital, my friends were taking me home, and we had a guy follow us all the way to Home Depot. He showed us a gun and screamed profane things out the window at us.We called 911 and the police proceeded to surround our car, and harass us about the CWB "gang" even though we were the ones harassed with a gun.
We were waiting another 45 minutes, and I was in so much pain. I wanted to go home, and it didn't seem like the police cared about our well-being. All they were concerned about was running the names of my friends and checking warrants - when this man had threatened our lives. And when we all looked at him, we recognized him as a guard at the La Plata County Jail.
I demand justice for what he did, and a request the Durango Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol to cease the harassment. Just because we are young and our peers make wrong choices about being in a "gang," doesn't mean we are like them. I am sick of being looked at as a menace, when really I was a victim all along. The same goes for the rest of my friends who get harassed every day just because of the way they look or the people they know.
