After a beautiful rain, and observing the burst of green that dressed the trees this week, I felt a final explosion of spring while attending the Miller Middle School band concert Tuesday evening. Having grown up with music and taught it for more than 35 years, I was in awe of these young musicians as they performed. Watching their concentration, determination and poise, I could feel that each one wished to present the finest final program possible for their director.
Michael Coble truly has been an inspiration to these gifted students as they reach to the heights, the end result being an awesome musical performance. He has influenced their lives forever.
In view of the audience in attendance, I knew that parents had to be responsible for the encouragement and success of such beautiful children. Isn't it sad that during bad financial times, the music program is the first one to be cut from the curriculum? This is precisely when we need its beauty to lift our spirits. Music is forever.
May the school board have the wisdom to continue providing the availability of music for the enrichment and happiness in children's lives and their futures.
