A 19-space RV park off U.S. Highway 550 south of Durango was unanimously approved this week by the La Plata County Planning Commission.
The project at 9981 Highway 550 is slated to be on 19 acres, with an office, restroom and outdoor amenities. The RV park will be located on a broader 48-acre parcel, which is used for agricultural purposes.
The land agent for the project, Tiffany Rhodes with Southwest Land Services, said the owners of the property, Tori and Tanner Kroeger, intend to supplement their income with the RV park so they can continue their ag operation.
“This will allow them to stay and keep the rest of the property in that ag function,” Rhodes said.
There was little discussion among Planning Commissioners on Thursday, who commended the project and quickly approved it.
No one spoke during a public comment period.
“I feel it really does represent the spirit of the district plan,” said Commissioner Geri Malandra, referring to the Florida Mesa District Plan, a document created by local residents to set the vision of future growth in their neighborhood.
According to La Plata County Planner Devin King, the RV park will be served by a commercial water well. A pump and recovery test was completed in May 2019, which proved adequate water production.
The RV park will be accessed directly off Highway 550, which was approved by the Colorado Department of Transportation. The site will be served by an on-site septic system.
