As a schoolteacher I see children who struggle every day. We are fortunate in this community to have access to resources to help improve the lives of some of these kids. Once such resource is Big Brothers Big Sisters Study Connection.
Volunteer mentors spend an hour each week after school to help with schoolwork, play games and just hang out. Its a one-to-one relationship where participating students really thrive on the attention.
An hour a week may not seem like much time, but Ive seen students exhibit increased self-confidence, improved grades and better classroom behavior. Students look forward to working with their Study Buddy each week.
Unfortunately, right now Big Brothers Big Sisters lacks the volunteers they need and many local children are waiting. For the sake of our children and our community, now is the time to make a difference for a child who struggles. Please consider volunteering to mentor a child.
