La Plata Conservation District recently awarded scholarships to two local students, David “Martin” Cuntz Jr. and Aleksander Hurworth. Both students received $1,000 scholarships for the pursuit of an agricultural or natural resource-related degree.
Cuntz has been admitted to Boise State University where he plans to major in ecology and behavioral sciences. He graduated from Durango High School last spring where he was active in sports and music. He also has a passion for ornithology and conservation. Hurworth is a graduate of Durango High School and is currently attending the University of Arizona. He plans to apply his engineering skills to environmental restoration by designing equipment that is fuel efficient, durable, cost effective and automated.
