Tax Planning 101 to be held Jan. 25
The January Lunch and Learn titled Tax Planning 101 will take place at noon Jan. 25 at First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.
The program will be presented by Brad A. Tafoya of Tafoya Barrett & Associates will present the program. The cost is $7 for chamber members and $14 for nonmembers. Participants will learn tips, tricks and tools to help save money and simplify tax reporting. Reservations are required.

Property-investment forum to be held Jan. 26
The Wells Group will host a 90-minute Investment Property Symposium at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in Program Rooms 1 and 2 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Doors will open for registration at 5 p.m. The symposium is designed to present the advantages and methods of owning local income-producing property as part of a well-diversified investment strategy. Seating is limited.

LPEA announces winners of Washington trip
High school students Dante Ciotti of Durango, Kendra Schlom of Pagosa Springs and Katherine Svanes of Bayfield have been selected to represent La Plata Electric Association as part of the National Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
The opportunity to participate in the D.C. Youth Tour, scheduled for June 14-21, was open to all high school juniors who receive their electric power from LPEA. Students completed an application, and wrote a 500-word essay covering an aspect of the electric industry of their choice. Their work was judged anonymously by an independent committee. Applications for the 2013 Washington, D.C., Youth Tour will be available in November at LPEAs offices in Durango and Pagosa Springs, through area high school counselors or at www.lpea.coop. Home-schooled students are eligible.
Chinook Medical Gear announces new hire
Chinook Medical Gear, a provider of custom medical solutions and field medical supplies for military, government, law enforcement and emergency medical services, announces new hire Anne Brennan as the companys sales and marketing director.
Brennan brings more than 28 years of experience to her new role, ranging from industries such as cable television, education, hotel and affiliate promotional campaigns.
She will oversee all sales and marketing activities for Chinook, including developing strategies for effective business retention, assisting with new-product development and launches.
She graduated from Santa Clara University in California with a degree in marketing. Brennan will be based at Chinooks headquarters in Durango, where she has lived for the last 10 years.

The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado has updated its Region 9 Report.
The report provides information of county-level data including population, employment and income numbers, livable wages and other labor force statistics for Southwest Colorado.

Legal affairs discussion to be held at program
Colorado State University Extension will offer Legally Secure Your Financial Future, a program designed to help evaluate and organize legal affairs related to life issues.
This program consists of three sessions: The first session will be about important papers and how long to keep them; the second will be presented by a physician to discuss advance directives and medical power of attorney; and the last session will be led by an attorney specializing in estate planning to answer questions about wills, trusts and more.
The first series will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26, 28 and 30 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. The second series will be held Feb. 13, 21 and 28 at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.
