The San Juan Chapter of the Colorado Mountain Club will offer a program, "Preventing Accidents in Outdoor Adventure," at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center (Twilight Room).
Brenda Porter, Colorado Mountain Club education director, will lead a 45-minute session that will examine the perils and hazards that contribute to outdoor accidents. She will use a decision-making model to discuss case studies. The workshop goal is to help participants and outdoor leaders increase safety in the backcountry.
Porter has 19 years of professional experience in outdoor recreation education and leadership development. She also founded the Youth Education Program of the Colorado Mountain Club.
