A preview of things to come to Durango?

Sundance Film Festival marks the traditional kickoff of festival season, which hits Durango in about a month. Durango Independent Film Festival Director Joanie Fraughton will be in Park City for this year’s Sundance. She has attended the festival since 1994. She said Durango filmgoers likely won’t see many, if any, of the 2012 Sundance offerings in March; typically, shorts and documentaries from Sundance hit Durango the next year. But there are a few to-be-announced slots that Fraughton keeps open in case one of the features catches her eye.
“We get so many submissions for the shorter films and docs that those schedules fill up pretty quickly, but we’re always looking for features, and we’ll try to get one or two this week,” Fraughton said.
She also has tickets for Slamdance, which is held concurrently with Sundance and tends to include an edgier slate of films.
The Durango Independent Film Festival will be held from Feb. 29 to March 4. More than 100 films are scheduled.
