Forget the first half.
Remember the second half.
The Ignacio High School boys basketball team played a tale of two halves at Mancos on Friday night.
We just played a lackluster first half. We acted like we didnt even want to play, Ignacio head coach Chris Valdez said. I couldnt believe it.
But after a spirited halftime discussion, the Ignacio boys came out and pulled away from Mancos 49-29.
We gave them a good chewing at halftime, Valdez said.
The second-half performance was much better, he said.
Senior Shane Richmond led the Bobcats with 21 points and six rebounds.
A guy who really stepped up for us was Clayton Jefferson, Valdez said. He had 10 points. And he played a great point guard for us ... no turnovers.
Adison Jones added nine rebounds and six points.
But they were all in the second half ... nothing in the first half, Valdez said.
In the second half, we acted like we wanted to play.
Kelton Richmond, the coach said, had an outstanding game for the Bobcats. He had four assists and three steals.
Kelton gave us great effort, Valdez said.
Ignacio (9-3, 6-0 San Juan Basin League), ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 2A by coloradopreps.com, will play at 3:30 p.m. today at Telluride.
