The Ignacio High School track team collected points in the boys pole vault and the boys discus Friday at the State Track and Field Championships in Lakewood.
Senior Abel Velasquez finished fifth in the discus at the Class 2A state meet, throwing 128-11.
Stryker Lane of Norwood, a three-time state wrestling champion, won the 2A discus with a throw of 154-4.
"Abel came out and competed well," Ignacio head coach Kathy Herrera said. "I was so proud of him. He came up to state last year and didn't place. This year, he came back and placed."
Ignacio senior Raudel Lucero finished eighth in the pole vault Friday. He cleared his personal best of 10-6 to make the state podium.
"He looked good (Friday)," Herrera said. "The pole vault over here (state) is always tough competition. But Raudel put in a lot of time and effort in the event."
Luke Terrell of Idalis won the 2A boys pole vault at 13-3.
Wray took the lead in the boys 2A team standings Friday with 33 points. Wiggins was second with 33. Sedgwick County (Julesburg) was third (29½).
Ignacio has seven points.
"We've got Oakley (Hayes) in the 400 finals (today)," said Herrera, who added that Hayes posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the open 400.
He'll race for a place on the podium right after noon today.
