A Durango woman is suspected of using her car to sideswipe another vehicle and run it off the road Wednesday on Goeglein Gulch Road.
Inshallah Perlman, 37, was cited for reckless driving resulting in an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to notify police of an accident, said Sgt. Rita Warfield, with the Durango Police Department.
The tussle occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Goeglein Gulch Road, between Tierra Vista Lane and Rim Drive, where the road goes past Hillcrest Golf Club.
Perlman was driving a 2006 Chevy van southbound when she passed a Subaru Impreza on a double-yellow line, Warfield said.
After making the pass, Perlman hit her brakes and slowed down, according to a witness.
The driver of the Subaru tried to pass Perlman at a legal passing point, but Perlman swerved left and hit the Subaru almost side-by-side, pushing the Subaru onto the shoulder of the oncoming lane, Warfield said.
Perlman kept driving without stopping, she said.
The driver of the Subaru and a witnesses notified police.
They couldnt believe what was happening, and thats why they called police, Warfield said.
Two officers located Perlmans vehicle, stopped her, and issued her the citations, Warfield said.
The incident appears to be a case of road rage, she said, but officers couldnt positively prove it and therefore didnt cite Perlman with road rage.
The Colorado State Patrol investigated a possible case of road rage last month that precipitated a two-car rollover accident on U.S. Highway 550, about a mile north of city limits.
Efforts to reach the State Patrol for an update on that incident were unsuccessful.
Police said the driver of the Subaru didnt do anything wrong. The driver and the witness handled the situation appropriately, Warfield said. They called police immediately and didnt try to chase down the car, she said.
If you react in rage, its just going to make everything worse, Warfield said. People just need to be patient. We have a lot of heavy traffic on our roads these days. People need to be considerate and not in such a hurry.
Efforts to reach Perlman for comment Wednesday were unsuccessful; contact information was unavailable.
