Demons blame their 1-point loss on woes from free-throw line
DHS head coach Alan Batiste said Easton Garcia contributes to the Demons’ offense in a lot of different ways. On Saturday, Garcia scored nine points, had six assists and four rebounds in a 59-58 Southwestern League loss to Montrose.
Durango’s Nick Hamlin was a force under the basket for the Demons, scoring 13 points on his patented spin move against Brad Warren and the 10th-ranked Indians. “Nobody in the league can guard him flat out, straight up one-on-one,” DHS head coach Alan Batiste said after the Demons’ one-point loss.
Durango’s Kevin Rangel scored three points for the Demons against Michael Orndorff, Benton Cruz and the Montrose Indians. Rangel contributed one of Durango’s four made free throws and one of their 10 misses from the free-throw line.
Durango’s Joe Keresey kicked off the Demons’ final-quarter comeback, hitting two consecutive 3-pointers when the Demons trailed Montrose by seven with about five minutes to go. Keresey scored 10 points for the Demons in their 59-58 loss.
