How rescue workers saved 28 hikers in two hours near Silverton

Hikers reported the Ice Fire grew rapidly after breaking out around 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19, even burning grasses above tree line.
The popular Ice Lake Trail will be closed for the indefinite future after a wildfire damaged the trail last week.

The decision was made by emergency flight crews about 5 minutes after arriving on scene to rescue trapped hikers to safety.
