After years of struggling to find enough bodies just to fill a starting lineup, Ignacio High School girls soccer coach Andrew Fenity has an unusual luxury to start this spring season.
Fenity has reserves.
We have eight subs; thats a solid team, Fenity said Saturday after the Bobcats season-opening loss at home to the Alamosa Mean Moose.
Were very young, a lot of freshmen and sophomores, but the program is developing, the fifth-year head coach said.
Alamosa defeated Ignacio 8-nil Saturday afternoon at IHS.
It was 5-0 at halftime, and the Mean Moose scored two of their second-half goals in the final two minutes.
Our girls in the back got a little tired for sure, Fenity said.
IHS (0-1) will host Bayfield (3-0) in its annual Pine River rivalry game at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the high school. The two teams both are members of the Class 3A Southwest Soccer League, although the conference contains schools numbers-wise from 1A, 2A and 3A classifications.
