They may be relegated to the Cafetorium, but Bayfield High School thespians are getting the most out of their unconventional setting.
This springs production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is an audition of sorts, as director Derek Smith and his students are lobbying the school districts strategic planning committee to build a performing-arts facility.
Smith credits senior Jayde Mitchell as the driving force behind what Smith called the most ambitious musical production theyve ever attempted.
He said Mitchell, who stars as Finch, insisted on How to Succeed. The show was revived last year on Broadway for its 50th anniversary with Daniel Radcliffe in the starring role and Radcliffe, has now been replaced by Nick Jonas.
He just wouldnt take no for an answer, Smith said of his star.
The play opened last week, and the final performance will be held at 7 p.m. today. Tickets cost $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door.
