As far as Durango High School boys lacrosse coach John Robinette is concerned, the Demons now are 1-0.
On Friday, Durango won its first game of the season 7-6 at DHS against Eagle Valley, a team it had lost to 6-0 earlier in the year.
Robinette said he challenged the team captains and seniors to step up this week in practice and told them he considered the last nine games of the season to be a new season. It worked.
We picked up the intensity all week in practice. Were playing at a high tempo, Robinette said. We were definitely more fired up and ready to go.
Kyle Truax scored the first goal of the game about 30 seconds in, Paul Bikis added a second goal minutes later, and Jared Cook scored the last five on the day, all of them assisted.
Robert Moore made nine saves in goal for the Demons, Jacob Boyle was a groundball machine on defense, and Patrick Cunnion dominated the face-offs, Robinette said.
Im just super proud of the boys for sticking with it, he said.
DHS (1-6) will host Battle Mountain at 11 a.m. today at DHS Stadium.
