In the May 22 edition of the Herald, we were notified that the DHS Athletic Director Sheldon Keresey has been terminated due to lack of students.
The Herald reported that 200 students have been lost due to the opening of Animas High School. AHS currently has an enrollment of 80 students, with several coming from districts other than 9-R.
Alyssa Shelton was critically injured under Keresey's watch. Could Keresey's termination have anything to do with Shelton's accident? Could the lack of freshman students be due to the economy, families leaving town to find work or perhaps low birth rates in 1994 - and not AHS? The Herald certainly gives us lots to think about and question on its front page.
