The city of Durango’s economy relies heavily on student involvement and engagement with local vendors, shops and restaurants. College students are citizens of Durango as well!
Why are certain citizens bashing the college population of Durango? (March 31, “Drug sales, use at Rim Drive parking lot must stop.”) If you think there is a drug problem in the city of Durango, I, for one, would love to see any concerned citizen working to get funding for rehabilitation and educational programs surrounding drug usage.
I live on campus and haven’t witnessed any remnants of “messes” left by anybody, let alone college students, around the Rim Drive scenic lots.
Let’s not forget that we are in a pandemic. Everybody is under an unholy amount of stress, and its obviously reflected by increased alcoholism and drug use. My advice to you is that if you’re willing to bash and or ridicule others for their issues, you may have bigger fish to fry!
Let’s work on a solution as a community rather than bashing one another. Currently, as an executive member of a student wellness group at Fort Lewis College, I have seen the impact of the pandemic, especially on college students. Everybody is human; let’s not make life more difficult for one another. Pointing fingers never solved a single problem; it just contributes to creating more.
