Fabian Kling, the NCAA Division II Player of the Year, was named the Don Whalen Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year at Fort Lewis College on Tuesday night at the Skyhawks’ awards banquet.
Dana Schreibvogel led Fort Lewis College to the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championships all four years, including a runner-up finish in 2010. She was a two-time RMAC regular-season champion, a two-time RMAC Shootout champion, and on Tuesday she was named the Jan Wilson-Hetzler Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year at FLC.

The Don Whalen Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to themost outstanding senior male athlete at Fort Lewis College. It is named after Dr. Don Whalen, alongtime coach, administrator and supporter of Skyhawks’ athletics. During his career at Fort Lewisfrom 1959-88, he served as men’s basketball coach, golf coach, director of athletics, dean ofeducation, vice president and, ultimately, two stints as interim president. He died in 2006 at age 75.
The Jan Wilson-Hetzler Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year award is presented annuallyto the most outstanding senior female athlete at Fort Lewis College. It is named after Jan Wilson-Hetzler, who was the women’s tennis coach and exercise science instructor at Fort Lewis in the mid-1970s. She died of breast cancer in 1976 at age 31. The athletic department named the awardafter her the next year.
