Vallecito is ready to go fishing - more than ready.The annual Vallecito Lake Chamber of Commerce Fishing Tournament, a popular summer kickoff angling festival, returns June 5-7.
The family-style fishing tournament weekend includes events for all ages.
The entry fee of the fishing tournament includes Friday night appetizers and the annual Saturday night fish fry.
Entry is $20 for adults, 18 and older.
For juniors, ages 13-17, entry is $15.
And for the "small fry," entry is $10 (ages 12 and under).
The program opens with registration and appetizers 6-8 p.m. June 5 at the Community Center.
Tournament fishing begins at 7 a.m. June 6. Fishing will continue through the afternoon.
The fish fry will be held 6-8 p.m. June 6 at the Vallecito Community Center.
The second day of tournament fishing will follow on June 7, starting at 7 a.m.
The competition will conclude at noon.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 7.
There will be special fish fry-only tickets available to non-tournament participants.
Last year, nearly 120 anglers entered the Vallecito fishing tourney.
Bob Atkins of Bayfield won the pike category with Steve Cook of Durango second.
Matthew Cerdas of Bayfield led the way in the trout/salmon division. Lonnie Rush of Vallecito Lake was second.
In the small-mouth bass category, Durango's Evan Buchanan was first, with Maurice Perrmann of Durango second.
Sandy Borgrink of Vallecito Lake won the lady angler division. Tracy Nations-Goegal of Ignacio finished second.
Karcy Reed, also of Ignacio, was the winner in the junior category (ages 13-17). Derek Foutz of Fruitland, N.M., was second.
In the "small fry" division for ages 12 and under, Jacob Nations of Ignacio won last year. Geoffrey Carpenter of Durango was second.
Eric Graham of Bayfield was the winner in the grand slam angler division for trout, salmon, pike and bass.
Chris Phelps of Durango was the top finisher in the shoreline angler category. Jim Carpenter Jr. of Durango was second.
