FARMINGTON Deputy U.S. Marshals have tracked down and arrested a New Mexico man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Southwest Colorado.
The Marshals Service says 19-year-old Tommy Mitchell was arrested after being tracked to a trailer park in Farmington on Friday. Officers from several agencies were searching the park when Mitchell ran out the back door of one home. He was captured quickly, and the trailers owner was arrested for harboring a felon.
Authorities say Mitchell and 18-year-old Elijah Anglin drove to Ignacio on Tuesday to try to collect a drug debt. The two men allegedly shot 39-year-old Joey Benavidez multiple times because he couldnt pay.
La Plata County deputies already had Anglin in custody. Mitchell was being held on a murder charge.
Anglin appeared in 6th Judicial District Court twice last week, where District Judge David Dickinson on Friday issued a gag order in the case.
Anglin is being held in the La Plata County jail on a $1 million bond.
Anyone with information is asked to call La Plata County Sheriffs Investigator Dan Patterson at 382-7015 or Investigator Jim Hendricks at 382-7018.
