The Ignacio High School track and field stepped to the top of the podium Saturday in the annual Southwest Invitational in Cortez.
Dusty Mangus of the Bobcats placed in four events for the Ignacio boys, who were fourth overall.
Michelle Simmons and Sky Cotton placed in four events each for the Ignacio girls, who finished fifth as a team.
The Bobcats fought hard (Saturday), assistant coach Rocky Cundiff said. They did a good job.
Mangus won the 200-meter dash in 24.44 in the meet hosted by Dove Creek High School. He was second in the 100 (11.79), third in the pole vault (12-3) and fourth in the high jump (5-5).
Colton Wyatt of Ignacio won the discus with a throw of 123-7. Teammate Shane Richmond was second (120-9), and Richmond also finished third in the shot (43-3). Wyatt was fourth in the shot (40-9).
Teagan Overturf added three fifth-place finishes 200 meters, pole vault and 100 meters.
For the girls, Simmons won the 200 in 27.71. She also won the high jump (5-1). The Ignacio junior added a second in the 100-meter dash (13.6).
Sky Cotton finished second to Simmons in the 200. The Ignacio freshman also was third in the long jump (15-6)and fifth in the high jump (4-7).
Sky Cotton teamed with Simmons, Cloe Seibel and sister Pam Cotton to take second place in the 800 sprint medley relay.
Seibel also finished third in the 1,600 (6:12).
The Bobcats will host the annual Abel Velasquez Invitational next Saturday at Wolverine Country Stadium in Bayfield.
