The Durango High School boys baseball team put only half as many on Grand Junction as the Tigers put on the Demons.
The Demons scored three runs on six hits against Tigers pitcher Steve Baldwins 106 pitches but couldnt catch the Tigers.
We spotted them five runs in the first two innings, DHS head coach Rob Coddington said. The guys absolutely fought. They played with a lot of passion this weekend.
He said the runs resulted from some errors and misplayed balls, and Durango lost 6-3.
Durango scored one in each the first, third and sixth innings.
Danny Rowley and Connor Dugan were 2-for-4 each for the Demons.
We had some opporunities but werent able to capitalize, Coddington said.
Rowley look the loss for the Demons, giving up six runs on eight hits in Grand Junction. Only two of them were earned runs.
The Tigers scored two in the first, three in the second and capped it off with one in the third.
Even with the loss, the Demons remained on top of the Southwestern League at 11-8, 6-3 SWL.
The Tigers and Fruita Monument are a half-game behind at 5-3 in the SWL.
Durango will finish its regular season Thursday when they host Montezuma-Cortez on Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the DHS ballfield.
