I recently completed seventh grade at Escalante Middle School. My experiences there are very different from the views expressed in Erin Hansen's letter to the editor (Herald, May 26).
Our principal, Amy Kendzi-orski, is a very hands-on principal who is aware of everything going on in the school. She personally has helped me with many issues and is very easy to talk to.
I have had awesome teachers in science, math, language arts and exploratories. I also got to be a peer helper to many of our special-needs kids. This experience was super fun and life-changing.
There are lots of other cool things about Escalante: our newly built greenhouse, the ropes course, amazing art and music programs, and our great sports teams.
Escalante isn't perfect, but in my opinion, it's a great middle school.
