Did you ever have one of those weeks when nothing happened?
Well, I just experienced this for the first time in the 28 years I have been penning this column.
I went trolling for some old news that needed to be printed. At the other end of my line of communication, however, we could not get into my e-mail account, so we tried sending a fax - which ended up with a nice header but nothing else.
It's like fishing without putting the worm on the hook - you can wave that hook all you want, but nothing's going to bite.
I do have a bit of good news, which involves a prelude to a postponed tournament.
I am happy to say that someone recently bid $800 for the Glacier Club golf package donated to the Kids with Disabilities silent auction. The tournament, which ran into some inclement weather, will be rescheduled for late September at Hillcrest. Eight C-notes goes a long ways toward helping those in our community. Thank you.
Bridgestone will be busy June 11-12 with two separate golf ball fittings.
Dalton Ranch Golf Club will host the first fitting on the 11th, while Hillcrest Golf Club will follow with a similar session on the 12th. Check with your respective pro shops for more information and times.
Before the fittings, Ping will be in town for a Demo Day from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest. Just the name alone conjures up images of hitting it straight and long. So check out the latest offering, and try out some new equipment.
It's hard to believe, but the Coca-Cola of Durango-Navajo Trail Open is fast approaching June 18-21. In order to properly thank the many contributing sponsors for this popular regional event, a Sponsors Tournament will be held June 13 at Hillcrest. Players will tee off by virtue of a shotgun start, and dinner will follow at the clubhouse.
Attention all intermediate level golfers who want to fine tune their game, an Intermediate Golfer Clinic will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Hillcrest Golf Club. Check with the HGC pro shop for cost and sign-up information.
Yes, there will be a 29th edition of the Randango Golf Tournament on Aug. 1 this year at Hillcrest. However, after much soul searching, golfers who will be playing in this event, will be on a short leash as to not violate club rules.
The list of stipulations are straight forward and will make for a better event, which, by the way, is all for the graduating high school seniors to help jump-start their collegiate student-athletic endeavors with much-needed scholarship money.
For more information, contact Skip or Gail at 247-3031. Let's make sure this tournament reaches its 30th birthday next year.
Also at Dalton Ranch Golf Club this June: The monthly Couples Tournament on June 14; Columbine Classic on June 25; the Calcutta on the DRGC Pavilion on June 26 and the ever-popular Choker Tournament on June 27.
