Great Old Broads announces hire
Great Old Broads for Wilderness, a national nonprofit organization based in Durango, recently hired Ellen Stein in the position of broadband and membership coordinator.
Stein comes to the Great Old Broads with more than 20 years of experience in the environmental field working in grass-roots organizing, advocacy, program and organizational development, fundraising, planning and policy.
Most recently, she was the development director for KDUR-FM. She has a masters degree in environmental policy and planning from Tufts University and a bachelors degree in studio art from Colorado College.
As coordinator, Stein is responsible for the success of the broadband program as well as oversight of its membership program.
Broadbands are volunteer-led local chapters and are the grass-roots movement of Great Old Broads for Wilderness.

Assault services has new board members
Sexual Assault Services Organization announces the addition of new board members:
Kathy Barrett brings her years of experience as a sexual-assault examiner.
Dian Jenkins brings her experience advocating for deaf women since the 1970s and as coordinator of Disability Services at Fort Lewis College.
Lisa Self brings her years of experience as an advocate working both the SASO Hotline as well as the Child Assault Prevention Program.
SASO provides advocacy to victims of sexual assault, education and prevention programs increasing public awareness and safety, in an anti-oppression framework. SASO is a nonprofit, private organization located in Durango, supported by grants, donations and other fundraising efforts.

Family Center hires executive director
The Durango Family Center announces the addition of Roseann Kutzleb as executive director of the La Plata Family Centers Coalition.
Kutzleb brings a wealth of experience from working in human services in the community for more than 25 years. Kutzleb has served as program manger at the San Juan Basin Health Department in Durango.
The coalition provides support to families. In addition to helping families in need, it provides education and a one-stop referral source to programs within the coalition and connections to other programs and agencies in the community.

College to offer marketing class
The Small Business Development Center at Fort Lewis College will present The Measurement for Effective Marketing from 1 to 5 p.m. May 9 in Program Room 2 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The class is designed to help organizations get the most for their marketing dollar. The cost is $40 or $35 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members. The class will be led by Louise Garnett.

Free business training curriculum available
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and U.S. Small Business Administration has released Money Smart for Small Business, a training curriculum for new and aspiring business owners.
The training provides an introduction to day-to-day business organization and planning and is written for entrepreneurs with limited or no prior formal business training.
A training alliance will be formed for organizations that support small businesses through training, technical assistance or mentoring.
Each of the 10 instructor-led modules in the training provides financial and business management for business owners and includes a scripted instructor guide, participant guide and overhead slides.
