Readers loved our story They put the horse in horsepower (Herald - May 2), so I asked the photographer on site, David Bergeland, to explain how he got the photos and what he liked about the assignment.
Here is a link to the story in case you havent already seen it: http://durangoherald.com/article/20120502/NEWS01/705029909/0/SEARCH/They-put-the-horse-in-horsepower.
When you watch the video, which David put together specifically for this blog, youll see Mel Bartel placing the harness one of his Clydesdales. That shot is called a Hail Mary because the photographer is holding the camera out but cant see what he is shooting, so hell have no idea if the shot will turn out or not. Luckily for us, it did this time around.
David said he was surprised by the Clydesdales because he was expecting an intimidating horse due to their size.
They are such gentle giants, he said. They have a very calm temperament.
David said he is always looking for details when he goes out on assignment.
The most important part of the story is finding the passion people have for their work, he said.
He certainly found it, and we hope you enjoy the video. Let us know what you think, and be sure to tell us when a story that we publish interests you. There might be more photos or a video that we can post along with it to give you even more behind-the-scenes footage.
