The undefeated Bayfield High School girls soccer team added another first Sunday.
The Wolverines were seeded No. 9 in the CHSAA Class 3A Soccer Championships, and they will host a first-round playoff game for the first time in school history.
Absolutely ... we are very excited, Bayfield head coach Jen Zelinski said. I definitely think its realistic to be there (seeded No. 9).
The Wolverines (14-0-1) will host No. 24 Buena Vista (8-3-0) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
I was hoping for the top 10, so were happy at (No. 9), said Zelinski, whos led the Wolverines into the postseason for the fourth consecutive year.
I think it will have a huge impact playing at home, not traveling and playing the same day, she said, adding that the Wolverines are expecting a tough match against Buena Vista.
The winner of the Bayfield-Buena Vista match will match up with the winner of No. 25 Basalt (7-6-2) and No. 8 Colorado Academy (9-4-2) in the second round.
Telluride, the only team to tie Bayfield this year, was seeded No. 20 with its 11-2-2 record. The Miners will play at No. 13 Coal Ridge (11-2-3) in Silt/New Castle.
Holy Family (13-2-0) is the No. 1 seed in Class 3A. Faith Christian (12-2-1) is No. 2.
