Durango’s dice fall flat

Demons’ odds run out in a 3-nil loss to the Wheat Ridge Farmers
Durango goalkeeper Karlee Mulkey stopped one of four shots on goal from Katelin Blosser and Wheat Ridge, and the Farmers eliminated the Demons 3-0 in the first round of the CHSAA Class 4A Girls Soccer State Championships at Riverview Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Lauren Milliet and the Durango Demons took their first-round playoff game on the chin from Macee Broer and the 19th-seeded Wheat Ridge Farmers on Tuesday at Riverview Sports Complex. For the fourth consecutive season, the Demons – seeded 14th this year– lost in the opening round of the CHSAA Class 4A Girls Soccer State Championships.
After jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of play, Elise Boisnard and the Wheat Ridge Farmers wouldn’t let Lauren Millet and the Durango Demons up. Although the Demons tallied seven shots on goal, they couldn’t find net and were knocked out of the state playoffs in the first round for the fourth consecutive year.
Carly Manahan was perfect in goal for Wheat Ridge, making sure Steffie Wilson and Durango couldn’t battle their way back into contention. Manahan stopped five Durango shots on goal during what her coach described as a “scary” finish to the first half, then two more in the second half to keep the Demons at bay for a 3-0 win.
