Michelle Simmons of Ignacio reached up and cleared 5-2 on Thursday in the Class 2A state finals in Lakewood. Simmons finished fifth. Nola Basey of Lyons won at 5-6. “I really, really wanted to get 5-3,” Simmons said after she finished fifth.

Ignacio’s Michelle Simmons had to celebrate after advancing in the high jump by clearing 5-2 on Thursday at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. Simmons, who finished fifth in the high jump, also qualified for the finals in the 100 meters.
