Blindness no barrier for triathlete
Ivonne Mosquera-Schmidt, blind since age 2, runs tethered to her husband, John Schmidt, as she trains for a triathlon. USA Triathlon estimates she is one of about 150 active paratriathletes. One of her dreams is to compete in the first Paratriathlon in the Summer Paralympics in Brazil in 2016.
When friends doubted she could compete in the swimming portion of a triathlon, Ivonne Mosquera-Schmidt said she told them, “The hell with you,” and it motivated her to win her age category.
