Making art out of a bathroom scale: That's a project artists seldom undertake. But that is exactly what is desired for a show at the Durango Public Library. The local committee for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week hopes amateur and professional artists will decorate bathroom scales, in any medium, such as paint, glitter and faux fur, for an exhibit that will hang Feb. 22-28.
Although a scale can be a debilitating judge, undermining efforts at a healthy weight and self-esteem, the judges want the art to demonstrate a positive body image. Artists may remain anonymous.
The deadline to submit scales is Feb. 18. Drop them off between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Women's Resource Center, 670 East Second Ave., or leave them with Mandy Mikulencak at the Garden Mercantile Building, 777 Main Ave., Suite 211.
